Questions and fees

FAQs

In what way is a funeral led by a celebrant different from a service led by a minister or priest, or humanist?

As an independent celebrant, I am able and happy to include in the ceremony any elements that are appropriate to you as a family. These elements – readings, poems, rituals, music - can include the secular, the spiritual, and the religious.

What is your fee, and what is included?

£200for a funeral, celebration of life, or memorial

My fee for a funeral, celebration of life, or memorial is £200. The fee includes:

  • our initial meeting (usually lasting up to two hours) in your home, to talk about your loved one
  • all continued liaison with you and the funeral director
  • crafting and working with you to create the script for your ceremony
  • keeping in touch and making any additions or amendments to the draft script
  • leading the ceremony
  • a copy of the ceremony script.

£100for an interment of ashes

My fee for an interment of ashes is £100. The fee includes:

  • our initial meeting (usually shorter than the meeting for a funeral, celebration of life, or memorial) in your home, to talk about your loved one
  • any required liaison with you and the funeral director
  • creating the script for your ceremony
  • keeping in touch and making any additions or amendments to the draft script
  • leading the ceremony
  • a copy of the ceremony script.

My fee includes travel within a 15-mile radius of Ayr. If the location is further away, there is an additional fee of 55p per mile.

Any other expenses are agreed in advance and in writing.

How much notice do you need?

Ideally, two weeks before the date of the service. In that time, we meet in person so you can tell me about your loved one, and I begin to craft the ceremony based on your wishes. I share a draft of the script and you have a short period to make any amendments to the script.
