Independent celebrant · Ayrshire

Services

When someone we love dies, it is important to mark the end of that life in a personal, meaningful way. As an independent celebrant, I listen to your wishes and the stories of your loved one and create a bespoke ceremony. I support you in making the choices that are right for you and your family. It is your choice whether your ceremony includes readings or eulogy by family or friends. It is your choice whether your ceremony is with or without religious elements such as hymns or prayers.

Ceremonies

Funerals, Celebrations of Life, and Memorials

A funeral is a ceremony in which we acknowledge the death of someone significant; we commit the body to be cremated or buried; as mourners, we support the family. A funeral takes place at a crematorium, cemetery, or natural burial ground.

A celebration of life is really not very different from a funeral. It may include the committal of the body of the person who has died. If it does, the ceremony is similar to a funeral. Some people choose to have a private or direct cremation. In that case, the committal of the body is a separate ceremony. During the celebration of life, the focus is on the life that has passed. When the burial or cremation has already taken place, a celebration of life may be held in any indoor or outdoor venue that feels appropriate, such as your garden, a favourite location, or a local hotel.

A memorial is a ceremony that takes place weeks or even months after the cremation or burial. Like a celebration of life, this ceremony may take place in any appropriate venue.

Final resting place

Interment / Scattering of Ashes

Some people want a very private interment or scattering of ashes, but if you want something more to say your final goodbyes then I can assist you to create a ceremony to mark the final resting place. For some families, a scattering or interment of ashes takes place shortly after the funeral; for others, it may take place years later. This ceremony is likely to be shorter than the other ceremonies: it is still possible to make this personal and significant to you and your family.
